Since I got back from LA, I was intrigued to find a Lost Souls Cafe in the Silicon Valley - Yes, I know there isn't one here. So I did some research on Yelp and discovered Ed H's review on Barefoot Coffee Roaster. Three words: No Sh*t Ed! These baristas are serious about their coffees! Ed and I had a deep discussion two weeks ago about coffee grinding and roasting. And it's good to know that a fellow coffee drinker would return to this establishment and talk highly of it.
On this night, Mika and I ventured during an evening performance by a local Indie Rock/Folk band. I felt kinda embarrassed because we walked in during their set. So we quietly made our way to the barista and placed our orders of Mocha Borgia, Aztec Mocha, and an espresso shot (for me). Taking the immediate first sip after our barista drop the espresso, I was astonished. These guys can capture flavor..... Dayam! They know how to grind. That had some good bite! And the prices: Very reasonable considering that they finalize your drink with a palm leave dcor from the forth and a tiny biscuit. Very impressive.
Interior Decor:
I didn't realize the artwork on the far west wall of the cafe was created by a Filipino artist. This was a shocker. Made me think for a moment because Mika noticed the "Chippy Chips" on the wall. In addition, this had the rustic and jazzy environment (much like my experience at Lost Souls). Very earnest on their coffee. Very retro on their setting and display. I could chill out here more often.
The Crowd:
Anti-Starbucks. I think I overheard "Man... f**k Starbucks!" more than twenty times while Mika and I chilled out in the outdoor patio. Says enough to me. These people really came down to get their roast on! Laptop peeps: Yes, they brought their hardware. Wi-Fi access I assume.
Okay... so let's do the Guri wrap up:
Recommend: Yes. Beware though. If you're a sweet tooth and do not drink coffee passionately, you will be disappointed unless you ask the barista (in a confidential manner) to educate you real quick! Try to whisper so that the locals won't hear you.
Will I go back: Yes. There's about 10 more drinks to explore.
Romantic: Hard to say. Most chicks I know just want to get liquored up before having sex. As for me, I'd like to get 10 shots of espresso before having sex.
